SUMMARY:ILLUSTRATED TALK: EXPLORING THE WORLD OF MEDIEVAL SWORD FIGHTING
DESCRIPTION:Join Luke Loader and Phil Milton for an introduction to Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) and the lost fighting traditions of medieval and Renaissance Europe. This talk will explore how we study, reconstruct, and practice these historical combat systems using surviving technical manuals and illustrations. As part of Taunton Longswords, a club dedicated to reviving these arts, we examine techniques for duelling, self-defence, and battlefield combat, bringing them to life as fully functional modern martial arts.\nThe session will include live demonstrations, showcasing the techniques and principles of medieval sword fighting, giving you a firsthand look at how these historical systems worked in practice. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, or simply curious, this talk will provide an insight into the world of HEMA!\nTalks are free to members.  Visitors are very welcome, £4 per person.\n
