Miss Nellie Jones (now Mrs Nellie Porter) has given us a photograph of her as the Langport Carnival Queen in 1951, to add to our collection of carnival photos. She told us that in those days, candidates were given books of penny tickets. Whoever sold the most tickets (to raise funds for the Carnival) became the Carnival Queen. She and her mother cycled all round the local villages to sell tickets, and their efforts were clearly rewarded. You can see more images of Langport carnivals here. If anyone else has photos they would like to share, please contact us.
