The Blake Museum has very kindly given us permission to use the two portraits of Samuel Stuckey from their Chubb Collection. Samuel Stuckey (1740-1812) is of vital importance to the history of Langport, since he was the founder of Stuckey’s Bank.
With his brother George he built up a successful trading business at Great Bow Wharf, bringing cargoes of coal, brick, salt and other goods for onward transportation to other areas further afield.

You can read more about Stuckey’s Bank here, and about Great Bow Wharf here.
They are both buried in All Saints’ Church, Langport, where there is a large family memorial.
