The Drayton Dabinetts
A chance remark by one of our Trustees, Colin Edwards, led to a piece of research into the Dabinett family. He mentioned that his grandfather, Frederick Dabinett, had been the landlord of the Crown Inn at Drayton. While looking into his family history, contact was made via the Ancestry website with someone else who was on the same trail. I only knew her as huladancer28, which was her Ancestry username.
Eventually this research led not only to an article in the 2022 edition of Level Talk, but to a gathering of the Dabinett clan in Drayton in July 2022. Organised by Jacqui Price, this reunion brought together many Dabinett descendants with huladancer28 – real name Lynda Hylander, and her husband Lance, who arrived from America to search out her Dabinett roots.

Lynda gave us a potted history of the Dabinetts who emigrated to America. You can read it below.

William was the only one of the 9 siblings, children of David & Elizabeth (Allen) Dabinett, who emigrated to America… 5 died in infancy or young; the other three, Frederick (former owner of the Drayton Crown), Jesse (former owner of Walnut Tree Cottage) & Lydia, stayed in England, married and raised families. And you, my Dabinett cousins, are the descendants of those 3 Dabinettʻs.
