The Battle of Langport, fought on 10th July 1645, was an important battle late in the English Civil War. The Parliamentarian Army, under the command of Sir Thomas Fairfax, defeated the Royalists, led by General Goring, and chased them out of the town towards Bridgwater. It was a heavy blow to the Royalists’ morale, and enabled Cromwell’s New Model Army to consolidate its position in the south west.
