Inner Wheel Clubs were inaugurated in Manchester in 1924 by the wives of Rotarians, hence their logo being based on that of Rotary. Their objectives are the promote friendship, to encourage service to the community and to foster international understanding.
The Langport & Somerton Inner Wheel Club was granted its official charter on 30 June 1949 at a ceremony at the Langport Arms attended by over 100 guests, which was followed by a buffet supper and a dance.
Its first president was Mrs J A Gibson-Smith, whose husband was president of the Langport & Somerton Rotary Club at the time. A list of Presidents is below.
The Club ceased to operate in 2022, and its records have now been transferred to the Somerset Heritage Centre.
