Withy growing

The wetlands of the Somerset Levels provide ideal growing conditions for willow in the form of withies. Several generations of the Coate family of Stoke St Gregory, for example, have built a withy growing business which is still in existence. Withies were transported downriver to Bridgwater and beyond, or made into products locally.
