The Langport Arms is one of the town’s earliest secular buildings, recorded in 1596 as ‘the inn’. It was known as The Swan in the 17th and 18th centuries; the White Swan in 1800, and in 1818 it became the Langport Arms. It was a coaching inn, acting as the Post Office and Excise Office until they moved elsewhere. Other than for a few years in the 19th century the building was owned by Langport Corporation, who added the portico in 1828. They sold the freehold in 1901. In June 2024 a car accidentally demolished part of the portico. It is a Grade II* listed building.
