A Langport portcullis has been identified in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It was carved into the wooden floor of a house built by Robert Thomas Alderman in the 1930s, and is an exact copy of the portcullis used by Langport Grammar School. Bob, as he was known, spent only two or three years at the school, leaving when he was 14 years old. He emigrated to Canada two years later, but clearly remembered his time in Langport with great fondness, and employed his skills as a carpenter in creating a portcullis inlaid into the floor of his house.
