Talks
We hold monthly meetings to which visiting speakers are invited to give illustrated talks on subjects of historical interest on Langport and the surrounding area, as well as on topics of more general historical interest.
Our talks are held on the first Monday in the month, the exceptions being Bank Holidays, when we meet a week later, and July and August when we don’t meet. We usually meet at All Saints’ Hall, North Street, Langport TA10 9RQ,where we foster a relaxed atmosphere. In the winter we have talks in the afternoon, starting at 2.30, and in the summer months we have evening talks, starting at 7.30pm. Talks are free to members. Non-members are very welcome, entry is £4.
Our December meeting is usually a social event at a different venue.
Our programme of talks is available here.
Walks
We offer guided walks around Langport, showcasing its most historic sights. The route includes both well-known streets and hidden gems that are off the beaten track. They are available to pre-booked groups of 5-12 people at £5 per head.
Email [email protected] for more information.
Visits
We arrange visits to places of interest in the region, although our main annual visit sometimes ventures further afield. Non-members are very welcome to join us. Details are on our Visits page.
Research projects
We do local history research, from answering queries about Langport’s past, to more substantial projects which may end up as publications, such as Langport and Huish Episcopi through time and Not just names. Details of all our publications, and how to get hold of them, are on our Publications page. Details of how to contact us are on our Contact us page.

Enquiries
We are happy to try to answer enquiries about the history of the local area. These are often from people tracing their family history, finding out about the history of their house, their business or a street. If you’d like to ask us a question, details of how to get in touch are on our Contact us page.
You can see summaries of some of our previous enquiries here.
Digital images
Since October 2010 we have been collecting and making digital copies of photographs of Langport and the surrounding area. They are available to illustrate articles, talks etc, to raise awareness of our rich local history.
We have used many of them in our book, Langport & Huish Episcopi through time. From time to time we also mount exhibitions of some of the images, usually in Langport Library.
If anyone has any old photographs of their house, or any aspect of local life, we would love to hear from you. We only need to borrow your photos for a short time in order to scan them, and then we return the originals to you. If you prefer, we can bring a scanner to your home so that your photos don’t leave your possession. Click here for our contact details.
Quizzes
Because we like a bit of a challenge, every year we publish a few quizzes. We do this partly to raise money for the Society, but also to raise our profile and to provide some entertainment. All the questions are totally original, not downloaded from the internet or copied from any other source. Details of our latest quiz, and the answers to our last one, are available here.
We’ve been doing this since 2013, so by now we have back catalogue of old quizzes which are available free on request. Email [email protected] for a list.
